"San Antonio Deserves This": Why David & Tamela Mann Are Excited About The Alamo City

When Grammy-winning gospel artists David and Tamela Mann announced their Love & Relationship Tour would stop in San Antonio on April 11 at the Tobin Center, some folks raised eyebrows. San Antonio? Really?
But here's what David and Tamela know that the naysayers don't: San Antonio is exactly the kind of city they want to be in. "I like all the markets," David told us during our recent interview for The Layover Podcast. "If it's an A, B, or C market, I like all the markets where we can reach people who don't normally get a show. That's where you can go where people are really hungry." And Tamela? She's crystal clear on San Antonio's value: "They said San Antonio is not one of the sexy spots to come. And so, we're like, 'If we go, they will come.'"
She's right. The Alamo City is hungry — not for the next big thing, but for the real thing. And David and Tamela Mann deliver real love, real marriage, real faith, and real entertainment.
What San Antonio Can Expect
So, what's in store for San Antonio at the Love & Relationship Tour? It's not just a concert. It's an intimate, multi-layered experience built for anyone navigating relationships — whether you're married, single, divorced, or somewhere in between. The show kicks off with David and Tamela performing "Us Against the World" together, followed by an intimate conversation about their 38 years of marriage and what it takes to stay standing strong in an industry that chews people up. "We start out with Tam and I doing 'Us Against the World,'" David explained. "We sit down and have this intimate conversation about our 38 years and being in this industry. Then we share some more songs." Tamela will perform fan favorites like "Take Me to the King," "Change Me," "Only Imagine," "Now Behold the Lamb," and new tracks from her Grammy-nominated album Live Breathing Fighting.
David, meanwhile, will bring his comedy — and if you're sitting close and dressed flashy, you might become part of the show. "Don't dress too flashy because David has a tendency," Tamela warned with a laugh. "He's going to be doing comedy on relationships." And yes, they've got special guests lined up.
Where Should They Eat While They're Here?
We asked David and Tamela what kind of food they like to try when they come to a new city. The answer? Good soul food, good barbecue, and good Mexican food. Tamela's a soul food person at heart. David? He's a Texan, so he's all about testing if San Antonio's barbecue lives up to the hype. And Tamela loves Mexican food — so she's ready to explore.
When we mentioned a few local favorites — J's Eatery, D&N Soul Food, and Snow Island — they were already taking notes. "Drop them in the comments," Tamela said, inviting the San Antonio community to share their recommendations. "David and Tamela may see it and y'all may give them a recommendation for where they want to go and eat." They also loved their recent visit to Tryst, calling the lamb chops "amazing" and praising the whole experience. "The whole facility was really, really nice," Tamela said. "I was very proud of them for what they set up for us."
Why This Matters
Here's the thing about San Antonio that outsiders don't always understand: We don't need to be a "sexy spot." We need artists who show up for the people, not for the headlines. David and Tamela Mann aren't coming to San Antonio because it's trendy. They're coming because they want to bring their show to the San Antonio community. And when artists like them choose to invest in cities like ours, they're ultimately building community.
"We're just encouraging home girls — y'all bring your home girls for a night out," Tamela said. "Make it a double date night. Come out to hang with us in San Antonio on April the 11th at the Tobin Center." And if you're planning to go to the VIP meet-and-greet, Tamela has one request: "When you get your tickets and you meet the Manns, act like you got some sense and keep your hands off David." She's not playing. But she's also inviting you to come as you are — newlyweds, single friends, married couples trying to figure it out, anyone looking for a night of laughter, love, and real talk about relationships.
